Local Telephone

Preston Telephone Company provides local telephone service to the communities of Preston, Goose Lake, Spragueville, Springbrook and surrounding areas.

Line Rates
Residential Line ($20.50/month)
Enables you to call within your local calling area from your home, includes free calls to Miles, Spragueville and Goose Lake. The following services are included at no charge: Touch Tone, Three-way Calling, Caller ID and Call Forwarding.

Business Line ($25.50/month)
Enables you to call within your local area from your business, includes free calls to Miles, Spragueville and Goose Lake. This service includes one free listing in the telephone directory yellow pages. The following services are included at no charge: Touch Tone, Three-way Calling, Caller ID and Call Forwarding.

Business Trunk Hunting ($1.50/month)
If you have more than one Business Line, our Trunk Hunting service allows calls coming in to automatically roll over to the next line if one line is busy. You do not miss a call and your customers do not receive a busy signal.

New Telephone Customer Form

Federal and E-911 Charges
We are required by law to assess all lines various federal and state taxes and fees on the monthly bill that you receive. We are then required to remit these to the various federal and state agencies. These taxes and fees include, but may not be limited to, E-911 taxes of $1.00, Federal Universal Service Charge which is a percentage that varies quarterly, Subscriber Line Charge which is $6.50 for Residential and Single Line Business, Multiline Business charge per line of $9.20, Federal Excise Tax, State Sales Tax and Local Option Tax. If you are a TV subscriber in Preston, the City also charges a franchise tax and we are required to remit that to the City.

PTC Long Distance

Preston Telephone Company offers a pay-as-you go long distance plan with no minimum fee. Contact the office for plan rates and details.

If you experience telephone problems or discover an outage, please call Preston Telephone Company at 563-689-3811.

Problems or troubles that are determined not to be the fault of PTC will be billed accordingly; this basically includes customer-owned equipment and inside wiring. A labor charge of $50 applies. Materials are extra.

Whether it's a small or large construction project or a homeowner project (such as putting up a fence, clothes line, planting a garden or shrubbery, building a deck, etc.) call Iowa One Call 48 hours prior to digging (not counting weekends or holidays). Iowa One Call will notify the owners and operators of underground facilities, who are IOC members, of this planned digging activity. They in turn will mark or flag the ground for you, so you will know where all your underground utilities are so you'll know where NOT to dig.
